GIRLS ~ MOTHER ~ WISEWOMAN CRONE CIRCLES
Jean Shinoda Bolen’s book, The Millionth Circle, changed my life. Discovering that gathering in women’s circles was just the medicine my heart yearned for, her book became my bible as I moved into guiding circles. Women, as a gender, have a natural talent for gathering in circles because the archetypal form of the circle feels familiar to the psyches of most of us. It feels personal and egalitarian-there is no hierarchy in a circle. The round shape is sacred, with no beginning or end, just like the life cycle of birth and death.
Every point on a circle is equidistant from the center and is equally important to maintain the shape of the circle. Therefore, the circle represents inter-dependence. Not to be confused with co-dependence, interdependence means a community of capable, diverse, and co-equal individuals who recognize that self-interest and mutual interest are one and the same.~from “Spontaneous Evolution, Our Positive Future by Bruce H. Lipton, Ph.D. and Steve Bhaerman
Though it appears that in a circle women are just gathering and talking, something grander is happening. We are shifting consciousness, in ourselves, and therefore in our world. Gandhi said, “Be the change you wish to see in the world. You are the world.” Bolen believes a great encompassing shift will happen when there are a critical number of women’s circles. She tells us that if there were a million women’s circles, human culture would change.
Who doesn’t realize that our world is out of balance? To restore male/female balance, for the patriarchy to change, we need a strong infusion of women’s wisdom and ways, the feminine aspects of humanity. Human beings are one family and we need to love and cherish each other. Women, those who beget life, know this in their bones. In Circles, women listen, witness, react, deepen, mirror, laugh, cry, grieve, share, support, inspire and share. The feminine wisdom, the knowing, becomes the medicine of the moment. A peaceful revolution is going on, a women’s spirituality movement, hidden in plain sight. When a critical mass, the millionth circle, tips the scales, a new era will be ushered in.

I’ve noticed that everything an Indian does is in a circle, and that is because the Power of the World always works in circles, and everything tries to be round…The sky is round, and I have heard that the earth is round like a ball, and so are all the stars. The wind, in its greatest power, whirls. Birds make their nests in circles, for theirs is the same religion as ours…Even the seasons form a great circle in their changing, and always come back again to where they were. The life of a man is a circle from childhood to childhood, and so it is in everything where power moves. ~Black Elk, Oglala Sioux Holy Man
